Jenny Beland Interview

Jenny Beland is a newer competitor I was lucky to come across. Having done her first two fitness model competitions in 2009, she has a very bright future. Already with a 1st place and a 2nd place in those two shows, it is apparent she is bound for great things. Beautiful and with a great physique, she also has a long career in fitness modeling ahead of her. Jenny is also a very kind woman and a pleasure to talk to. Jenny is a name you are going to be hearing a lot more about in the future, so here is your chance to get to know her a little bit.

Q: First, Jenny, I want to thank you for taking the time to do this.
A: It's my pleasure :) I think your blog is fabulous to promote fitness/bodybuilding woman and I'm honor to be part of it!
By the way,Sorry for my English Jason,it ain't perfect lolll!

Q: Can you start out by telling a little about yourself.
A: I'm dynamic and cheerful 32 years old girl who lives in Montreal,Qc,Canada but grew up in a little village called Richmond. I've always been a girl that needed some thrill and challenge in my life...I think that's why I moved in the big city ;) lolll! I enjoy being with friends and family when the occasion comes... cause I have to admit, training and working occupy most of my time.

Q: Before the gym were you an especially athletic person? Play any sports or anything?
A: Not really....As a child I used to do figure skating, karate and played baseball but when I became a teenager I left this stuff on the side. I was more a party girl then a athletic girl lolll!

Q: What initially led you into the gym?
A: My boyfriend! I meet him and he was training...On top of that, I was close to turning 30 and I decide that it was time to change my life around and I subscribed myself at the gym...I felt the needed to do something positive and good for myself!

Q: Was training something you picked up fairly easy? How long before you started to see results?
A: Soon has I started,I took it very seriously but I trained for 2 years without being satisfied with my shape...Yes I saw results but it wasn't what I wanted! So I started to look for a personal trainer,BEST MOVE I EVER DID :)! 6 weeks after,I had lost 10% bodyfat and gained close to 10 pounds in muscle mass by changing my diet,my training and using MVP Biotech products!

Q: What made you decide to compete for the first time?
A: I saw some pictures of Fitness women and realized that's what I wanted to look like! I tough they were so beautiful!

Q: Was competing something your family and friends supported at the time?
A: I never felt that my friends and family weren't approving of my decision, but it was hard for them to understand at the beginning what my passion was all about...Specially for the diet part.

Q: Was competing what you expected? Did anything surprise you about it?
A: It was even more fun that I thought :) The surprise was me,how I felt! I thought I'd be nervous on stage, but not at all! I felt like this was made for me!!!

Q: Can you share your contest history.
A:
* 1st place Fitness model FAME Quebec Provincial 2009
* 2nd place Fitness model Fitness Star Montreal 2009

Q: As far as body parts, what do you feel is your best one?
A: My arms... I have strong triceps!

Q: Do you have a part you most like to train or favorite exercise?
A: I like training my legs...Squats,leg press, dead lift are some of my favorite exercises

Q: What is your normal training routine and diet like, and how do you alter it for contest prep?
A: I eat 210g of protein and 240g of carbs/ day. That's 35g of protein and 40g of carbs every 2 hours 1/2. Lots of green veggies and drink 3-4 liter of water.
I do about 1h-1h30 of musculation 5days/week. I don't have to do to much cardio...2-3 days of 20-30min. during the week. I have a good metabolism!
When I prepared myself to compete my cabs go down, but I still eat carbs till the day ao the competition...guess I'm lucky and I do training 6 days/week.

Q: When someone sees your physique or hears you compete for the first time, what is the most common reaction? More positive or negative?
A: Either they like it or they don't....Some think I look really good, some others think I'm too lean. But most of the time I get complimented alot!

Q: When they see it that first time, what is the one question or comment you are most sick of hearing?
A: Usually I get really nice comments and I appreciate it!

Q: What is the biggest misconception about women who train and compete or the one thing you wish people understood?
A: That just because where lean that we are not healthy! We eat well and that's just how it is when you compete!

Q: What is the best and worst part of competing?
A: The best part for me..definitely feeling like a queen on stage! Having this little moment for me to shine!!The worst...eat only fish, turkey, white eggs, sweet potatoes, oatmeal and greens veggies when I'm close to compete.

Q: Do you have a favorite cheat food?
A: I love candies!

Q: If another woman told you she wanted to start training, what is the one piece of advice you would most want to give her?
A: Do it for yourself and by yourself!! If you start training with someone it ain't gonna work...Usually,people end-up not going if the other one doesn't go!

Q: Do you get a lot of friends asking for diet tips?
A: ALL THE TIME loll! But like I told them, it doesn't mean that my diet will be alright for them...I always suggest them to see a professional to help them.

Q: Outside of training, any other hobbies or activities you enjoy?
A: I discovered recently another passion...Modeling! I like being sexy for the camera! I'm not a girl who's always with make-up or who's having my hair done all the time,so modeling gives me the opportunity to do those thing and be who I want to be for a while ;) loll!
